You're a celebrity on a blue social media app called
Facebook. You hear that there's another similar app called Twitter. You decide
to open an account with it, since you want to diversify your dominance on the social
media scene.
So to Twitter you go, you start posting, sorry tweeting your
Facebook lackluster jokes. Minutes pass, hours and days. No comments, likes or
retweets of your tweet. You realize you've not garnered the attention you
usually get on Facebook. You try one more tweet, still nothing happens. It soon
appears vivid that Twitter is one hell of a boring app. You decide to leave Twitter
for good to concentrate on Facebook where you have a comparative advantage.
Overtime, you realize you've fully utilised your full
potential on Facebook, and it's really a commonplace. You certainly need
something extraordinary. After about two years of dormancy on Twitter, you
decide to give it a second chance. This time, you find one or two of your OBs,
and you immediately follow them. They follow back instantly. You tweet
something, they like, still no comment, but you feel your Twitter presence is
beginning to blossom.
You follow other few people, they follow back, your tweets
are liked.... and sometimes retweeted or commented on. Within a few months, you
have over a thousand followers. And your childish tweets are at least popular
to your followers. You realize Twitter is family, and now you're addicted to
it.
An addiction it is, but I have highlighted 5 reasons why Twitter
is better than Facebook.
1. Limited words per
tweet.
In a generation where people don't have much time to read the
whole bits and pieces, Twitter is the best place to express your precise
convictions about anything. Initially, the limited words were 140 until when
they were increased to 240. More often than not, people will miss out on
information, b'se the text is too long, which is not the case on Twitter. On Twitter,
every piece is absorbed real quick the reason most scandals that begin on Twitter
like the Suubi issue spread like bush fire.
2. Twitter for iPhone
Twitter is a platform where everyone will know the type of
device you're using to tweet. Most notably the iPhone which has in one way or
another defined some sort of affluence on Twitter. The others are Android, Twitter
web app or Social media desks of different companies. If therefore you start
some sort of rampage or claim some high life, your device will be used to
validate your class.
3. Followers vs
Friends
Another important aspect to note is Twitter followers. One
friend of mine on Twitter once remarked that, he would rather lose a hundred
friends on Facebook, than lose one Twitter follower. And he was right, the pain
of losing just one follower hurts as much as following someone who doesn't
follow you back. This pain is felt when Twitter for instance suspends your
account and you have to start from zero again to gain followers. Your followers
are your asset, your net worth and your family.
4. Twitter
influencers.
In this digital age, where attention has become the new gold
Rush, Twitter has become the best place to influence and become popular and
some how make some legit money. You may be popular on Facebook, you may have
many friends, but you will not influence anything or get a gig to bring any
event to attention. But dare be popular on Twitter and your inbox will flood
with messages of gigs. Twitter is the best platform to influence decisions.
5. Twitter family
Perhaps the most important aspect is the Twitter family. It's
like a big house where we all stay and see each other every day. If you meet a
tweep on the road or event, you chat like you've been seeing each other every
day. We know each other's hustle, scandal, breakthrough, low moments and who is
in love with who. We may disagree on very many things, we troll each other, we may
fight, but one thing we can't shy away from is that together, we are and we'll
always be THE TWITTER FAMILY.
