"Nsimbi"
is yet another one of those well-crafted pieces by the late Mozey Radio. In the
song, Radio carefully examines the extent to which money has impacted our daily
lives, both negatively and positively.
He opens with a
statement "Tulibangi abakulwanira" a harsh reality we have to face
every single day of our lives. Other phrases like "Tukunonya
tetukyebaka" validate that first statement as a precursor to the whole
piece.
Literally
though, Radio uses the title "Nsimbi" as a symbolic representation of
a very beautiful but intricate girl who gives sleepless nights to many suitors
of her time. This is evidenced when he laments "Nsimbi lwakuba okyusakyusa
address wosula, Nsimbi gwenjagala ah ah"
The simple, yet
sophisticated lyrics, the impeccable choice of words, the use of vivid imagery
and metaphors, are feats most millennials tend to ignore, yet those are the
true description of the genius that was Radio.
A rather
disturbing reality about this song is that the word "Nsimbi" and
"Beautiful girl" have become inseparable today, needless to say. WHO
WAS RADIO?
Kangarukye aha
ka Nile kangye.
